  4. Status Update meeting with Mike Lyon

    Amelia, Morgan, and Mike Lyon met this morning to review the current status of this project.  Morgan gave an overview of what has happened with bicycling this summer, and Amelia described the LINC class projects for this fall.  We will set a meeting with Risk Management, Legal, and Kinesiology to review the departmental bike sharing process.  We will also set a meeting with Purchasing to identify the correct process for the purchase of UI owned bicycles.

    Hello All,

    The work on these buildings should start in the next couple weeks. The Craft & Trades are getting past their busy season since school has started.

    The only item I see on Tom’s list that may be an issue is the tuck pointing at the Native American House 1206 W. Nevada. I will have to speak with our Brickmasons Foreman to see if this can be done.

    As for the Speech Communication building let me see what the future plans for its use are.

  6. Update from Mckenzie Beverage

    Hi Mark and Morgan,

    I met with Thomas today and we discussed the kits and email to be sent to the buildings. He is waiting on confirmation from Mark for the building upgrades. Do you know when those will begin? He would like to list the specific upgrades that will be made for each building when he contacts them. I have attached his list here. Please let him know if all of these will be able to happen and when.

    Additionally, Thomas was informed that the Speech Communications building is not occupied this semester. Do you know how long it will be unoccupied? If it is longer than the fall semester, Thomas suggested reconsidering completing the upgrades.

    Let me know if you would like to set up a meeting to discuss these items. Otherwise, Thomas will be needing the energy usage information from before and after the upgrades to include that in his final report. Thanks!

  7. $250,000 available in FY13; allocation process TBD

    Mike Marquissee confirmed the funding available for allocation in FY13 is $250,000. Doris Reeser stated that there will be no AFMFA allocation meeting this year.  It was decided that the call for proposals should wait until there is at least $1M to allocate from this fund.  Therefore, there will not be a selection process during FY13.

    I have attached the invoices for the RSOs. I have been informed by the RSO account tech that you need to make the check payable to the University of Illinois. You can put their RSO name in the memo or write c/o after the University of Illinois with their RSO name. Whichever works easiest for you. Once you have done this, please send the checks to me (my mail code is listed below). I will contact the students and give them instructions on how to cash these checks. Please let me know if you need anything further.

    Hello all,

    Thank you so much for participating in the 2011-2012 Weatherization Program. Your incentives for participating in the program will be available at the Office of Registered Organizations on the day classes begin. Please ask for me when you arrive.

    When you come to pick up your check you will need to take it to the Cashier’s window in 100 Henry Administration Building. You will need your 4-digit RSO account number (ACCOUNT #1-90__ __ __ __-389005-307900-199000) in order to deposit the check into your RSO account. Your treasurer should know this number. If your treasurer does not know this number, he or she may request if from the Office of Registered Organizations (please note that only the treasurer may request this number).

    Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy the last few days of summer!

  9. Fourth Street from Armory Avenue to Kirby Avenue

    2014 Campus Bike Plan

    This project will include resurfacing of Fourth Street from Armory Avenue to Peabody Drive and reconstruction from Peabody Drive to Kirby Avenue. It will incorporate on-street bike lanes, curb bump outs for narrowed crossing distances at selected intersections, and new traffic signals at the intersection of Fourth Street and Peabody Drive.

  10. Sixth Street from Armory Avenue to Gregory Drive

    2014 Campus Bike Plan

    This project will reconstruct pavement on the worst condition high volume streets and add bike lanes per current campus standards. This work will occur on Sixth Street from Armory Avenue to Gregory Drive. This will also upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection of Sixth Street and Gregory Drive to meet current federal standards and include pedestrian countdown signals.

  11. Gregory Drive from Oak Street to First Street

    Associated Project(s): 
    2014 Campus Bike Plan

    This project will include total removal and reconstruction of Gregory Drive, between Oak Street and First Street, including existing parking along street. This project will also include parking meters and some new sidewalks.  This segment of roadway is intended to be marked as a bicycle route, as part of the Campus Bike Network.

  15. Guest Lecturers, staff and student teams work together

    Associated Project(s): 
    Curriculum

    Staff gave a guest lecturer presentation to the Urban Planning / Civil Engineering UP430 class, regarding active transportation programs; met with a student team from Professor Rockett’s renewable energy course to discuss rooftop solar opportunities on campus; and gave a guest lecturer presentation to an Architecture class about the iCAP and sustainability initiatives on campus.

  17. CUUATS reported Grainger lighted crosswalk not recommended

    The Champaign-Urbana Urbanized Area Transportation Study (CUUATS) prepared a report on the efficacy of the Grainger lighted crosswalk on Springfield Avenue at the Engineering Quad.  Due to high maintenance needs, difficulty with the light activation system, and a false sense of security for pedestrians and cyclists crossing Springfield Avenue, this system is not recommended for future locations on campus.  Safety for people crossing high-traffic streets can be enhanced with alternative lighted crosswalk systems that are more effective and provide more consistent safety improvements.

  18. ICECF review for light funding, new DCEO grant updates

    Hosted a site visit from Bob Romo at ICECF to review lighting upgrades they funded previously.

    DCEO has a new grant available for Steam Trap replacement and Pipe Insulation.  The F&S Maintenance Division qualifies for this grant program, so we will submit a grant request in May.  Calculated funding request for the DCEO Boiler grant.

    Received final award documents for DCEO EEPs grant.

     

  20. Spring iCAP Forum Held

    Sustainability Engagement and Outreach

    At the spring iCAP Forum, sustainability staff presented a status update about progress towards meeting our commitments in the Illinois Climate Action Plan.  This included a broad overview of the various initiatives that are currently underway and a summary of the next steps in this process.  After the presentation, participants were asked to work in groups to provide feedback about setting priorities for further iCAP implementation.  A summary of the feedback will be available after the Spring 2012 semester.
