The cities of Urbana and Champaign worked together to produce a bicycle education video to introduce the public to the bicycle infrastructure that is being installed around both cities and to teach motorists and bicyclists how to interact with each other on the road.

This 14 minute video, entitled C-U Sharing the Road was filmed on local C-U streets and features many local C-U bicyclists. The video was filmed, edited, and produced by Urbana Public Television.

Champaign County Bikes works with the League of Illinois Bicyclists to produce a Champaign-Urbana Bicycle Map, and the Office of the Dean of Students funds and distributes thousands of these bike maps on campus each year.  

The map includes comfort rating for various roads in town and it notes the difficult intersections from a cycling perspective.  It includes a call out section focusing on the campus area, and the back of the map features a number of safety tips and resources.

The iCAP 2020 objective 2.2 is to "Reduce Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of university facilities from the FY08 baseline by: 45% by FY30, 50% by FY40, and 60% by FY50." The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is F&S.

The maintenance department is focused on helping the University to fulfill its mission of teaching, research and public engagement. The department prioritizes its work with the mission of the University in mind at all times.

Some energy conservation projects on campus fall under the responsibility of this group, and all maintenance needs are handled by this team.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is commited to moving beyond coal. Reducing our carbon footprint has been the overarching goal since we signed the American Colleges and Universities Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC).  Completing the Climate Action Plan (iCAP) for campus was a major step forward.

Make campus purchasing entities (all units and departments with purchasing privileges) responsible for costs of the disposal of the products consumed

Paper plays a key role in University of Illinois operations. The University is concerned about the future of the world’s forests and the environmental impacts of paper production, such as energy consumption (and associated carbon emissions), water usage, and waste production.

Use carbon and other environmental indicators for purchasing to avoid environmentally irresponsible products and corporations. Coordinate this effort with other universities.  These indicators should be incorporated into the campus sustainable purchasing policies.

In order to reduce the agricultural emissions, one goal of the 2010 iCAP is to create a local foods network. To reduce the problem of food miles and its related emissions, the campus needs to close the loop in food production, use, and waste recycling. This will require a shift to more sustainable agriculture and animal production practices, providing a support infrastructure of a local foods network, and a large-scale foodcomposting project to eliminate unnecessary food waste.

The iCAP 2020 objective 5.6 is to "Increase the use of local food to 35% by FY30." The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is University Housing. Local is defined as grown within 100 miles of the institution.
