Dimensions of Biodiversity

The goal of the Dimensions of Biodiversity campaign is to transform, by 2020, how we describe and understand the scope and role of life on Earth. Successful proposals pursue an integrated approach to understand the interactions and feedback among genetic, phylogenetic and functional dimensions of biodiversity.

Campus Cyberinfrastructure

The Campus Cyberinfrastructure program invests in coordinated campus-level cyberinfrastructure (CI) components of data, networking, and computing infrastructure, capabilities, and integrated services leading to higher levels of performance, reliability and predictability for science applications and distributed research projects.

Coastal SEES

Coastal SEES focuses on the sustainability of Coastal systems. The program aims to understand the dynamics of this coupled human-natural system to inform societal decisions about the uses of coastal systems, including for economic, aesthetic, recreational, research, and conservation purposes

National Research Programs

Campus sustainability projects and intiatives can provide a unique opportunity to explicitly connect campus operations with academia by using the campus and the surrounding community as a testbed for research-oriented projects. In this section, iCAP projects are linked to a number of national research programs sponsored by various national funding agencies.

Collection and Donation of Abandoned Bicycles

Every summer, Facilities & Services (F&S) tags all bicycles left on campus property and confirms the abandoned bicycles. University Parking cuts the locks, collects, and transports the abandoned and unwanted bicycles on campus. The bicycles are inventoried at the storage facility and the bicycles are searched in the University's registered bicycle database to identify the owners of the impounded bicycle. If the bicycle is registered, the owner is contacted to collect their bicycle. If the bicycle was not registered, it is kept in the storage until mid-September.

Seek External Grant Funding for Research

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a well known Tier 1 Research Institution, with several Nobel prize winners and highly utilized innovations, like the LED and the web-browser.  In support of the Climate Leadership Commitments, researchers can connect their grant applications to an iCAP project, using the campus as a Living Learning Laboratory.  The major funding bodies for sustainability research are EPA, NSF, DOE, and USDA.
