Local Food Promotion Program

The Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) offers grant funds with a 25% match to support the development and expansion of local and regional food business enterprises to increase domestic consumption of, and access to, locally and regionally produced agricultural products, and to develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets. 

Environmental Engineering

The goal of the Environmental Engineering program is to support transformative research which applies scientific and engineering principles to avoid or minimize solid, liquid, and gaseous discharges, resulting from human activities on land, inland and coastal waters, and air, while promoting resource and energy conservation and recovery.

Energy, Power, Control and Networks (EPCN)

Recent advances in communications, computation, and sensing technologies offer unprecedented opportunities for the design of cyber-physical systems with increased responsiveness, interconnectivity and automation. To meet new challenges and societal needs, the Energy, Power, Control and Networks (EPCN) Program invests in systems and control methods for analysis and design of cyber-physical systems to ensure stability, performance, robustness, and security.

Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL)

The Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program seeks to advance new approaches to and evidence-based understanding of the design and development of STEM learning opportunities for the public in informal environments; provide multiple pathways for broadening access to and engagement in STEM learning experiences; advance innovative research on and assessment of STEM learning in informal environments; and engage the public of all ages in learning STEM in informal environments.

Campus Tree Inventory

This project documented individual trees on campus, using a GPS device and collecting tree details into the ArcGIS data layer.  The previous Tree Inventory was last updated in 2006, and it included trees that had subsequently been removed and it was missing new trees that have been planted. Through this project, the Tree Inventory was updated to include all and only existing trees on campus. The environmental benefits included in the tree inventory are directly derived from iTree, with the help of Davey Research Group who completed the survey on campus. 

Research Opportunities and Projects

Research is central to the sustainability of the University and the region. Already a world leader in sustainability and climate research, Illinois is developing opportunities for researchers from diverse disciplines to come together to explore new frontiers in discovering solutions to the challenges ahead. Innovative research collaborations focused on creating knowledge and new technologies are being developed to discover, analyze, and implement new approaches for addressing sustainability and climate change challenges.
