During the spring 2023 semester, the iCAP Zero Waste Team submitted a recommendation for Facilities & Services and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics to jointly launch a pilot tailgate recycling program, beginning during the fall 2023 football season. On May 2, 2023, Director of Athletics Josh Whitman approved the recommendation, and on May 21, 2023, Facilities & Services Executive Director Ehab Kamarah also approved the recommendation.
In Champaign-Urbana, more than 20 different food truck vendors can be found regularly circulating through the cities. Many of these food trucks can be found around the University of Illinois streets, students being a primary consumer of their offerings. Businesses, especially those which serve food and drink, have a unique opportunity to address sustainability within their operations. To-go, delivery, and food trucks have the unique addition of disposable products as part of their service to customers.

In coordination with the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics; the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment; Facilities & Services; and Coca-Cola, the university is pursuing a concerted effort to increase recycling and reduce waste at athletic events. Fighting Illini, Fighting Waste is a high-visibility, evergreen campaign concept formed at the university's weekly sustainability calls with Coca-Cola.

The Illini Union is in the early stages of implementing a pre-consumer waste composting pilot program. Several businesses already participate in a composting program with the City of Urbana Landscape Recycling Center. More information to follow!
In an effort to increase visibility around recycling and sustainable living, the university's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) has partnered with the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics to promote recycling of all cans and bottles at Memorial Stadium this season through the Be Orange, Go Green campaign.
Coca-Cola is partnering with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on a "Don't Waste" campaign to bring recycling and waste awareness to campus. The company is partnering with the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, University Housing, the Illini Union, the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment, F&S, and others to keep plastic and metal drink containers out of the campus waste stream.
The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) is a landmark bill enacted in 2021 which takes action on environmental justice, renewable energy production, and clean transportation. This project page will be used to post important updates on CEJA related projects in Illinois.
The SPOT project is a commercial outdoor picnic table retrofitted with solar panels on top-of-pole solar mounts and an off-grid PV system. It is used for charging cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
