Speech and Hearing Rooftop Solar PVs (Proposed)

Recent Project Updates

  • 1/29/2019
This project was originally proposed by Mechanical Engineering students for Abbott Power Plant in spring 2016.  At that time, the SSC members did not want to support solar on the co-generation power plant because it uses fossil fuels....

Jeff Holt provided Morgan White with the attached estimate for upgrading the interior electrical system in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Building to allow for future installation of rooftop solar PVs.

Description

The Student Sustainability Committee funded the design and installation of a small solar PV array on the Speech and Hearing Sciences Building. This particular location was chosen due to its viability, visibility, and location near the heart of campus.  The roof was found to be strong enough to hold a ballasted solar array, and a design was completed. That design is available here in PDF format and can be pursued, if desired.
