Description

The University aims to foster a safe environment for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists on campus. To ensure that bicyclists are abiding by the appropriate rules, the University will enforce the Illinois Vehicle Code and the University Bike Code, and also encourage cyclists to register their bikes.

Background

Bicycles riding on streets are required to follow the Illinois Vehicle Code and the respective City Ordinances.  Off-streets (including parked bikes), they must follow the University Bike Code. The University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD) are authorized to issue warnings and citations to cyclists who are not following these respective laws.
